“Copping It Sweet” by Anna Clifton is an intriguing read! Well-paced, this story has a number of twists and secrets that kept me turning the pages. A number of funny moments keep parts of the book light, but the undercurrent of intrigue and suspense lasts throughout. Both characters, Cooper and Sara, have their secrets and their own agendas. Sarah’s past makes her very wary of Cooper, but it’s exactly that past that Cooper is interested in as a detective.
Both Sara and Cooper were very likeable and realistic characters, with a sweet yet steamy attraction simmering between them. Not only did I want a romantic resolution for the two of them, but I was dying to have the other parts of the story tied up as well and I wasn’t disappointed. The sub-characters were well-written, with their own motivations and histories. Evidently, this book is part of a series, but I found that it read well as a stand-alone novel.
When Detective Sergeant Cooper Halligan returns home to Sydney from Singapore, he is far from pleased to find Sara Sullivan immersed in his family. The woman’s secret history is tied to a murder investigation and the last thing he wants is his family caught up with criminals. Cooper knows that Sara is hiding something from him. The chance to spend more time with her provides the perfect cover to gather the information he needs. But the more time he spends with her, the more time he wants to spend with her.
Sara Sullivan has enough to deal with without the return of Cooper. She already spends her life living under the constant shadow of her crime-boss husband and Cooper is an unwelcome reminder. But her desperate need to pass her math exam means she finds herself thrown into his company. Just because they are spending time together doesn’t mean she’s going to expose her deepest secrets, though. Soon her heart is more involved than her head – which could put everyone she loves in danger. The question is, is Cooper worth the risk?
To find out her secrets he’s willing to risk everything ? including his heart.
Sara Sullivan has a landlord who wants to evict her, a 1960s Beetle that rarely starts, and a looming exam she’s all set to fail. But none of that compares to the return home of Detective Sergeant Cooper Halligan, her best friend’s brother and the single biggest threat to the secret she’s guarded for years…
Cooper Halligan is happy to be home. But he’s not happy to discover that Sara Sullivan is a permanent fixture within his family, especially when he’s the only one who knows about the sinister marriage lying hidden in her past.
Sara’s crime-boss husband is the prime suspect in the murder of an innocent street kid, and now Cooper’s prepared to do anything to find out what Sara knows.
