Earl of Darkness is one of the best paranormal books this reviewer has ever read!
Cat O’Connell is a woman hardened by burdens she has carried around for too long. Reduced to living by her wits. She is hired to sneak in the Earl of Kilronan’s home and steal a diary, for why she does not know.
Aidan Kilronan has found a thief in his midst with his father’s diary in hand. He observes her reaction as she glimpses through the pages. This diary holds secrets he cannot decipher, but from his little thief’s reaction to the gibberish writing fused in magic appears she does. She is special and Aidan should know, he is an Other – part fey and human. Aidan hatches a plan for his little thief. Instead of turning her over to the authorities, he will strike a deal with her to help him unravel the mysteries held bound deep in the diary.
With each word, sentence, and paragraph Cat translates, magic is unlocked. Not only does this bring them closer together, it also reveals a darkness that could destroy the very fabric of their lives.
Earl of Darkness, the first book in the Heir of Kilronan series, is by author Alix Rickloff. Ms. Rickloff conjured a tale so rich with words this reviewer could literally hear, feel, and smell every moment that unfolds. Cat and Aidan’s characters have all the flaws, humanity and humility a reviewer needs to ground one to the characters. This book is magic personified and this reviewer highly recommends Earl of Darkness.
Watch out you other grand dames of paranormal romance, Ms. Rickloff just spun a winner that is sure to be nipping at your heels.
Earl of Darkness by Alix Rickloff will hit the shelves January 2011. This reviewer advises preordering a copy. If this book is any indications of what Ms. Rickloff has to bring to the paranormal writing table, this series is sure to be a best selling winner.
This reviewer cannot wait for the next book in the series, Lady of Shadows, to lose herself in the magical realm Ms. Rickloff will pen.
The magic she tries to hide…
Born a lady, but reduced to surviving in the slums of Dublin, Catriona O’Connell has been hired to steal a mysterious book from Aidan Douglas, Earl of Kilronan. But Cat is secretly Other, an age-old mixture of Fey and human—something Aidan recognizes immediately when he surprises the lovely young burglar in his library, about to steal a magical diary.
…is the magic he desperately wants.
From the moment Aidan sees her, Cat’s spirited beauty enchants him, but her uncanny abilities are what he truly needs, for Cat can understand the mystical language in the diary he inherited from his murdered father. So Aidan makes an offer: translate the book or be thrown in prison as a thief. And as Cat slowly deciphers each page, she and Aidan are drawn together by passion . . .and into the violence of the Other world that is the Kilronan legacy. Can they defeat those who seek the book, or are their lives in even greater danger than their hearts?
