Being a teenager is never easy. Being a teenager forever and having to save the world from vampire infestations is infinitely harder. Lily Fielding happens to know this first hand. After being attacked by vampires, she is inducted into the sisterhood at The Afterlife Academy of Exceptionally Dark Arts. The academy trains its girls to go to schools that have the possibility of being infiltrated by a Vamplayer. Vamplayers, who are part human and part player, leech their way into a school attempting to hook up with a hot girl, who will then do his bidding, infesting the school with vampires. The job as a “Sister” is to pose as a student, figure out which girl the Vamplayer is after, and put a stop to it before it starts.

When Lily and two of her "Sisters" are sent to Nightshade Conservatory for Exceptional Girls and Boys to ferret out a Vamplayer, it seems nothing more than business as usual. Bianca looks like the most likely target for the Vamplayer. She has all the symptoms. She’s beautiful and part of the cool clique, not to mention a tramp of sorts. Tristan is the obvious Vamplayer. Euro-trash to the core and easy on the eyes, he seems to have Bianca on his radar until Lily comes to school. Now it seems Lily is his new target.

Zander and Grover are the low men on the totem pole at Nightshade. They work in the kitchen to help with their tuition to the school. Uber-geeks they generally stick to themselves, but after a kitchen mishap they become unlikely friends with Lily. For Zander, there is a hope of something more than her friendship.

When Lily’s “Sisters” begin acting strange the job becomes anything but the usual. Are they just playing their parts to the extreme or is something more sinister going on? It’s up to Lily to figure out where she stands with not only her “Sisters”, but also her new found friends and then stop the most powerful Vamplayer she has possibly ever seen.

Rusty Fischer delivers a great read in “Vamplayers”. The story flows well and when you think you have things figured out, Fischer throws you in another direction that will keep you guessing right up to the end. Readers will find characters they can identify with in this thoroughly enjoyable adventure. The story has characters that upon finishing the book, readers will hope are re-visited in perhaps other books by this exceptional author.
