The Detention Demon

Gumby just couldn't pay attention to where he was going and because of him, Wayne got in a fight with the school bully Bubba. Fights get you sent to detention and detentions at Conrad Junior High School mean only one thing. You won’t be coming back. Well, at least that's the rumor.

Serving the detention gets even worse when he has to serve it with none other than Bubba himself, but there is a ray of sunshine when Gumby shows up and that ray gets even brighter when Holly, a beautiful cheerleader, has to serve it with them. Each did their respective crime, but serving time here might mean never being seen again.

Is the detention teacher really what rumors say he is? Can Wayne and the other students serve their detention and make it back to tell the tale?

The Detention Demon is geared for young adults and, while it is a fun read, I would caution parents that like to be informed about what their kids are reading. The story has some pretty harsh language and while it is common that kids will hear its use in school, parents may not approve of its use in young adult literature.

The characters are believable and remind me of kids in today's schools. The story itself, as I said before, is a fun read, but it’s also a very dark story with some humorous undertones thrown in. I won’t condemn the book because it's honest in how kids talk when their parents aren't around, but I would suggest that parents read the book first and determine if they want them reading it.

Overall, The Detention Demon is worth reading, but is not Samantha Combs finest work.
