Who doesn’t love a dark, gothic-type romance novel? I know I do. This novel fit the bill perfectly. With a massive Gothic castle in disrepair, a brooding hero, and a naïve and innocent heroine, this novel hits all of the points to be an outstanding romance. If it’s not obvious, I adored this novel. I fell in love with the setting of the story; a dark castle needing repairs on a stormy cliff, and the surrounding small village. And the characters? I was fascinated by the interactions between Jane and Bastian. A gloomy Earl, he’s not happy about the American grad student coming to investigate his ancestral home. The setting made this a fantastic novel, with just enough suspense and plenty of romance to make it enchanting.
Jane Seyton is an American grad student on a mission. For years, the story of Stormclyff Hall has fascinated and intrigued her, to the point that she feels she must go investigate the keep, and the tragic family history of the Earl of Weymouth. The Earl, Bastian Carlisle, has other ideas. When Jane shows up at his ancestral home, unannounced, he is less than pleased. He invites her in, on the condition that she stay the night, and leave in the morning. Jane accepts, knowing that come morning, she has no intention of leaving. From the moment Jane arrives, strange things begin happening at the castle. The servants begin to talk. And before either one is aware of it, both Jane and Bastian have grown to love each other. Yet the ghosts from the past are not easily settled. Before Jane and Bastian can process it, events from the past come back to haunt the pair. If they aren’t careful, they will fall into the curse of the past, and lose each other forever. Can they figure out how to survive the vengeful spirits of history? Or are they doomed to repeat the past once again?
