Let me start by saying that I adore big cat shifters. Big cats have always been a passion of mine, and this book quite successfully embraces the feline shifters with grace. Obviously, I loved this novel. We get to meet Ellie West, a quiet, demure girl who was abandoned as a baby and is trying to eek out a living. We also meet Jack Ferris, a strong, brave panther shifter who is hunting Ellie. Both characters are extremely strong willed and quite brilliant, and I love them both. The story starts a little slow, but picks up quite rapidly, with plenty of adventure, and not a little passion. I will be seeking more from this very talented author!
She had been missing for decades. Yet Ellie had no idea she was missing! In her mind, her parents abandoned her as a baby, but they would surely be coming back...wouldn't they? One day as she is working her shift in a diner, a stranger walks in. He is tall, and has a mysterious bearing about him. And wonder of all wonders, he asked to have coffee with her! His name is Jack, and Ellie readily agrees. Jack, on the other hand, knows there's something about Ellie. He's certain she is the missing shifter baby of so long ago! But is she really? Before Jack and Ellie could have coffee, Ellie is nearly kidnapped and Jack comes roaring to the rescue. Literally. And the adventure begins. As Jack and Ellie run for their lives, Ellie begins to learn about her lost heritage. Jack is tasked with bringing her to her grandfather, but after more than one plan gets detoured, Jack knows it's an extremely dangerous situation with only one outcome. Who is Ellie? Can Jack save her from certain death? Or will all be lost?
Ellie West has always known there was more to her story than being abandoned at birth. A child of the foster-care system, she didn’t get many breaks, but the one thing she can do is sing. It’s her only ticket out of poverty and obscurity. Nothing else matters, not even the nagging sense that she’s different. She's headed for great things. She only needs a chance.
Jack Ferris couldn’t agree more. His firm, the elite paranormal agency Redclaw Security, has been hired to find a missing princess and return her to her family. Discovering that Ellie, a waitress in a hole-in-the-wall diner, is both the princess and his fated mate is like being hit with a sledgehammer. Ellie West can't be his mate. She's the mission.
The sooner Jack completes this job, the better, only Ellie has no intention of throwing her dreams away for a kingdom she's never known. With hired assassins on their trail, Ellie might not have a choice. They must do whatever it takes to stay alive.
