As a child, I always wanted to group up to be a pirate. Swordfights, sailing the world, and all those guys? What girl wouldn’t love that? But I digress. The romance of the high seas has long been a terrific basis for any story; great, distant lands, dashing men, and brave, (and sometimes very naïve), women. Author Tamara Hughes has created a wonderful story full of all that and more: action, adventure, and not a little forbidden but highly desirable romance. Obviously I adored the book. The settings were written with exquisite attention to detail, making them seem nearly realistic at times. And the characters? I literally found myself cheering out loud for our heroine, Charity, and our dashing hero with a heart of gold, James Lamont. This is a fantastically fun read that would be perfect for the beach. And just be aware, the heat level is sizzling!
Charity Goswick is in deep trouble. Her dearest uncle, the slime, has promised her hand in marriage to a troll of a man – and the last man on Earth Charity would ever want to marry. She has no choice. She has to make a run for it. So in the middle of the night, Charity races headlong into the night – and right into danger. After sneaking on the first ship she finds in the harbor, she hides, hoping not to be found. Before long, those hopes come crashing down, as handsome James Lamont stumbles across her, and her world turns upside down. Can Charity find a way to save herself from certain death at the hands of a bloodthirsty, albeit gorgeous, pirate? Or will she succumb to him, as they race around the seas, in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Charity Goswick thinks she is escaping an arranged marriage to a brute when she slips onto a ship unnoticed. Little does she realize that this is no honorable vessel of the King's Navy - it is a pirate ship. It's just a matter of time before she is discovered by a handsome rake of a pirate, who locks her in his cabin. And while she should be scared, her captor sparks the most unladylike feelings within her...
James Lamont is on the ship for one reason, and one reason only: to track down his brother. However, his spirited little stowaway certainly affords plenty of distraction with her many (failed) attempts to escape. And each time, the unspoken - and unbidden - passion between them grows stronger. But as violence and danger mount on the high seas, Charity will have to put all of her trust in the most untrustworthy of men... the arrogant pirate who just might steal her heart.
