I must admit it, I am a massive fan of Egyptian mythology. So when I stumbled upon this series, you can imagine how thrilled I was. In no way whatsoever was I prepared for the wild adventure that awaited me. Author A.W. Exley has spun a masterful tale that began with Nefertiti’s Heart, and continues in Hatshepsut’s Collar, the second in this enthralling series. As with the first novel, Hatshepsut’s Collar takes off at a breakneck speed, and maintains that speed throughout the novel. The characters are highly troubled, but also immensely resourceful and intriguing. Cara Devon, our delightful heroine, is wild and crazy, and so much fun to read. Our hero, Viscount Nathaniel Lyon (Lyon to his friends), is dark and brooding, with more than enough of his own secrets. This is a wildly fun series that should be read in order. I found it to be a perfect novel for a getaway read. And don’t worry, there’s more than enough heat to keep even the coldest of hearts warm.
After their last hair-raising adventure trying to secure Nefertiti’s Heart, Cara Devon, an antiquities collector, is on the hunt again. Rumors have abounded in the London courts that Queen Victoria is not acting quite as a monarch should. In short, she’s going mad. But as Cara has deduced, it’s all because of a certain piece of jewelry the Queen has favored lately. The mythical Hatshepsut’s Collar. As Cara is trying to figure out how to rescue the Queen and save the artifact, her relationship with Viscount Nathaniel Lyon is being threated. Nathaniel has more than enough secrets, and when he is arrested and condemned to hang, Cara knows that she must do anything to save Nathaniel, and her own neck. Can she save both her life and Nathaniel’s? Or will they all fall to the curse that is Hatshepsut’s Collar?
An ancient Egyptian artifact is driving Queen Victoria insane, and that's not top of Cara Devon's growing list of problems.
Viscount Nathaniel Lyons is a man of numerous secrets, but there is one in particular that threatens his fledgling relationship with Cara. Stunned by Nate's revelation, and before she can absorb the ramifications of his actions, he is arrested, charged with treason and imprisoned in the grim Tower of London. He stole something the mad queen wants, and only has days to deliver, before his date with the executioner.
Although sorely tempted, Cara can't let him die on Tower Green, not when their connection means she would share his fate.
Only together can Cara and Nate figure out how to wrestle Hatshepsut's Collar from around the queen's neck, before she plunges Britain into a world war. The search for answers sends Cara to the opulent Winter Palace of St Petersburg and the frozen depths of Siberia, with every step shadowed by an enemy with his own dark plans.
