Another outstanding novel in author Ally Shields Elvenrude series is here! Book 2, Cross Keys: Revelation, is out, and it is even better than the first. Once again, the story is spun in a masterful way that will grab the reader and not let go. (Again, I read the entire book in a day). There’s lots of intrigue and adventure, as well as heart stopping danger and pulse pounding romance. All of the original characters are back, Kam and Seth, as well as a whole host of new faces. This is an exceptional book that never once slows down, and takes the reader on one insane, world jumping adventure. This is another solid gold hit!
Six months have passed since the last craziness that drug Kam and Seth together. During this time, Kam has enjoyed her time in New Orleans, and enjoyed the missions she’s been on with her CIA contact. Seth, however, is not happy, as Kam is rarely around. When a guild guard is attacked randomly by an unseen assailant, everyone involved thinks the worst: another portal breach. As Kam takes off on another CIA mission that will interrupt their guild investigation, Seth reaches out to his cousin Rhyden to help him investigate. As Seth and Rhyden work, they discover numerous reports of these “ghostly” assailants. Kam is nowhere to be found, and ultimately, when the cases collide, Seth learns the worst thing possible: Kam is missing, and no one knows if she’s survived. With an increase in portal jumping unknowns and Kam, quite literally, off the grid, Seth will do anything he can to save her. And when their world again begins to collapse, it will take all of his strength to save them all.
If everyone keeps secrets, no one will survive…
Six months after the nightmare in Cross Keys, Kam Ryndel is enjoying her freedom in New Orleans and doesn't miss the constraints of Elven society. She's immersed herself in working missions for the CIA, even if it means less time to spend with her boyfriend, Seth. Seth's not so happy about that. Having shouldered the responsibility of his family's obligations, he's losing patience with Kam's lack of commitment to her own—and to him.
Then a guild worker is attacked by an invisible assailant, and everyone suspects another portal breach by rogues from Elvenrude. As Kam and Seth look for answers, a gang-related CIA mission interrupts the investigation, and Kam is taken to a place she never knew existed—beyond the Louisiana bayou.
Angered by Kam's new mission, Seth enlists the help of his cousin Rhyden to solve the mysterious guild-worker attack. Instead of an assailant, they discover reports of ghost sightings all over town. Not that unusual for New Orleans, but these seem…different. In a mission complicated by gangsters, feuds, failing magic, and old enemies—and the uncertain loyalty of the Elven king—Seth learns something even worse. Kam is missing. And he isn't sure if she's alive or dead…
Stands Alone: yes
