By Force is a delightful novel by author Sara Hubbard. The story is beautiful and moving, and it is a fast moving, roller coaster ride of emotion. I found it absolutely enchanting. Isame, the heroine, is a character torn in two directions. Does she follow her head, and her family loyalty? Or does she follow her heart, and go where she knows she shouldn’t? It is a story that many readers can identify with, and will love. I truly hope there are more books to follow this one, as this is a story that should continue.
Isame thought she had her life planned out. She knew what she wanted, and she knew her duty. She wanted adventure, she wanted a way out of the small hamlet she called home. What she got instead was a betrothal to the local blacksmith, Henry that she really did not want. Yet she knew it was her duty to accept. The same day she goes with her younger sister, Lilley, to accept Henry’s suit, she stops in the local market. A gypsy witch is there, and a fortune is given that will change Isame’s life forever. After a brief interaction with several random savages from another part of the kingdom, Isame thought the day would be a normal one. That is, until she heard the pounding of the horses hooves behind her and a very strong arm came down to grab her. That is when she realized that her life was changing, and it was up to her to decide whether it would be for the good, or for the bad. Who were these strange men, and what did they want with her? Would she survive? And how would her traitorous heart make sense of this who debacle? Who is she, really?
Kidnapping Isame would set them free…
Isame wanted freedom: the freedom to travel, the freedom to explore, but most of all, the freedom to choose the life she wanted over the life—and the husband—her parents had chosen for her. But when Isame leaves home to accept another man’s proposal, she happens across five fierce, handsome warriors. She wonders why they’ve travelled so far from home, but she never imagines their purpose might have something to do with her. Not even after they kidnap her.
Remmie is a man of honor and fierce loyalty. So when his king commands him to find a specific young woman on the island of Copaxa, he’s prepared to obey. But he’s not prepared for the woman to change everything. Isame is special. He can see it from the start. But how can one puny woman make him question everything he’s always known, including the rightness of doing what he’s promised?
