Breathless

Blue Fire Saga, #1

When I first began reading Breathless, it reminded me of the beginning of Twilight, with a bit of a twist. The characters were entering college, and Leesa, the heroine, already knew a bit about vampires. How quickly that perception changed. Breathless is the story of Leesa, her desperate struggle to save her family from a vampiric curse originating years prior, and the lengths she must go to in order to save her mom and brother. It is also a very intense, moving, utterly charming love story. Enter Rave. Rave is a vampire hunter, who uses his fire to kill vampires threatening humans. Rave’s entire world is turned upside down when Leesa enters the picture. He must learn how to help her and deal with their love, while she must learn all she can about the vampire world as well as how to deal with an uber-hot relationship with Rave. Add in all of the misadventures and fun of a freshman year of college and the story takes on a whole other incarnation. The novel is incredibly fun to read, and moves very quickly. The characters are delightful and quirky, and I would personally love to see more novels with other characters from the story. All in all, readers of all ages will thoroughly enjoy this novel.

Weston College freshman Leesa Nyland has been fascinated by vampires since she was three years old. That's when her mom started acting weird, insisting sunlight hurt her skin because she'd been bitten by a one-fanged vampire.

But fascinated doesn't mean Leesa believes. Any more than she believes in blue fire, people who live for centuries, and kisses that can kill. But when her beloved older brother suddenly disappears, she is forced to consider all these and more. She also has to figure out what to do about her mysterious new boyfriend. She knows Rave likes her a lot--so why won't he kiss her?

As Leesa draws closer to finding her brother, she faces some gut-wrenching decisions. Should she risk her mom's life trying to "cure" her? Should she continue seeing Rave, after he reveals his dangerous secret? And most terrifying of all, should she make the ultimate sacrifice-give up her humanity-to save her brother?
