Black Cathedral

Department 18, #1

Wow, was this a creepy book! I have been a long standing fan of the Department 18 books, having reviewed book 3 a while back. This is actually book 1 in that series, and a great start it is. We are introduced to some fantastic characters who are very strong willed and very talented psychically. The storyline is one that starts fast, and brings two or three different storylines into a cohesive piece quite brilliantly. It is a roller coaster of thrills and chills. I absolutely loved this novel, and I have no doubt that other readers will adore it as much as I did.

Robert Carson is one of the best investigators Department 18 has. He’s a tremendously strong psychic. He’s also reckless and far too headstrong for his own good, or at least that what his boss, Simon Crozier, seems to think. But when a case goes bad, and an agent goes missing without a trace, Robert is put on suspension. A bit later, a group of company execs on a company retreat vanish from an island off the Scottish coast. Department 18 is called onto the case, and Robert is called back in. Robert, along with Jane and a few others head off to the island, and into a case well beyond anything they had ever dreamed of. When the history of the island is revealed and the past comes back to haunt them with a vengeance, Robert and crew must use all of their wits in order to survive. Who is behind the mysterious disappearances? Will those who vanished ever be found? Are they even still alive? Or is this All just an exercise in futility? Time is dwindling in the race to save them…..

Book Blurb for Black Cathedral

At an old manor house on a remote Scottish island, six managers of a large corporation arrive for a week-long stay. Within days they will all suffer horrifying deaths and their bodies will never be found. The government assigns the case to Department 18, the special unit created to investigate the supernatural and the paranormal. However this is no mere haunted house. The evil on this island goes back centuries, but its unholy plots and schemes are hardly things of the past. In fact, while the members of Department 18 race to unravel the island’s secrets, the forces of darkness are gathering…and preparing to attack.
