A Plague of Echoes

Department 18, #4

As a long standing fan of the Department 18 books, I was thrilled to get ahold of the latest in this thrilling series. It certainly did not disappoint at all. I found the novel to be absolutely enthralling, with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. I love the characters, and am quite happy that they have all managed to survive through to this, the fourth book in the series. The novels of Department 18 can, in fact, potentially stand on their own; however I would recommend reading them in order, as they tend to fit a bit more cohesively that way. Overall, this was a very interesting way to leave the Department for now, with plenty of room to expand on in the future. Where will they go next? Only time will tell…..

By now, Department 18 has seen and done things that no mere human should have to do. But nothing prepares them when their fearless leader, Simon Crozier, is brutally attacked and critically wounded in broad daylight. And by a little old lady, no less! All the brilliant minds in Department 18 are stumped. Who is this little old lady, and why would she attack Crozier? What did she have against him? With no visible clues, the team decides to look at the not so visible clues. After the same little old lady performs another gruesome murder, they know all is not what it seems. And then a former team mate is brutally murdered. And a current co-worker is implicated in a case of file destruction, but was she really at fault? When a man from Simon’s past comes to visit, a lot more is revealed. When a nasty demon is discovered to be hiding in London, can the Department find it and stop its sinister plan before all hell breaks loose?
