Kate has longed to spend some alone time with Percy for years. She spends tons of time with him in the lab and they have been great partners and friends but he has never seen her romantically. She on the other hand cannot stop thinking about him. When an opportunity to go caving with him arises, she jumps on the chance. Her best friend Ano will tag along but knows when to make herself scarce. Unfortunately, there are other people there when they arrive, including Percy’s girlfriend. Kate is pretty miserable and after getting to know Matt, she’s torn between the two, but she soon realizes that there are bigger problems. Something horrible has happened above ground and now they are stuck for 30 days with few rations, very little medicine, dangerous terrain and dwindling hope. Now they must help each other to survive until they can make it out and see what has happened to their world.
At first when I got the book I was unsure of how much I would enjoy it. I have zero knowledge of caving but I am a bit of a closet geek so I enjoyed the various scientific and medical situations and conversations. This was not a not stop action adventure, but there was definitely a sense of doom and danger. The love triangle is always a nice draw, although I will admit that I am in Matt’s corner for many different reasons, but I can understand her attachment to her crush of 3 years. It was a definite page turner and had a great cliffhanger to make me want to read the next installment. I really want to know what happened to the world and to their friends and family. Also, I want to know who she chooses in the end. It was thoroughly enjoyable and one of the reads I passed on to my husband, who also enjoyed it. I look forward to continuing this journey.

With their exit blocked and their food supply dwindling, they must navigate the maze of tunnels to find an alternate exit back home--if there's still a home to return to.
