Danielle LaCrosse becomes a ladies maid to a very kind mistress. She's trying her best to pretend to be a skilled ladies maid but she really has not had much experience at it. Plus, the Viscount's brother Cade is wickedly tempting but she begins to suspect that there is more behind his rakish ways. The more time she spends with him bring the two of them closer together but both have to tread carefully or they might spill their secrets and that would be a disaster for both.
Danielle is a spunky and sassy leading lady. She is clever when need be and usually keeps her feeling on a tight leash. But everyone in her life is cracking her hardened shell. Her mistress is by far the kindest she's seen. Her friend Mary is her first real friend and the rest of the house members are endearing. Then add Cade, whom first seemed like a cad but over time reveals that he's not such a bad guy.
Cade has been playing the part of the ne'er do well and mooch for years but is actually a spy on a personal mission to avenge his brother who was captured and tortured. But he does not want his brother to fin out.
Throughout the story their is talk of the Black Fox a notorious and skilled thief that stole some maps from Napoleon Bonaparte's men, and some suspect that he may be Cade.
The story is fun and light with hints of deeper plot lines. The two main characters have some great chemistry and mystery.
