Honeymoon in Paris is the prequel to The Girl You Left Behind. The novella wasn't what I expected when I first read the summary. It was a little depressing compared to other Parisian novels that I have read. I liked it, but I didn't LOVE the storyline.
The plot tells the stories of two unhappy newlyweds in Paris, eighty years apart. In 1912 Sophie is worried over the thought that her husband Edouard, a painter will return to his habit of sleeping with his models. In 2002 Olivia is upset that her husband leaves her alone on their honeymoon to take a meeting for work.
I think my biggest downfall about this book was there was nothing out of the original about the storyline. Ms. Moyes writing style is unique and I enjoyed reading the printed words of her work, but I think the story itself could have been much better. I’m not recommending this for someone that has had their heart recently broken by their beloved or if you are suffering from a failed marriage. I wish the novella would have been a little brighter, but in the end I found myself being covered by a rain cloud as I read it.
This novella isn't of Parisian charm or of romance. I think that overall that was what I expected. I think however that this novella will still prove to be a decent read and it will be interesting to see how it fits into the actual novel that will follow in its lead.
