The Awakening #1

The first book in The Awakening series is an intriguing paranormal with some unique shifter elements that make for a refreshing change.

Jaylin is a shifter counselor who has become jaded and doesn’t want anything to do with shifters much less with bonding to one. After calling on Jaylin for help with a friend, Aidan takes drastic measures to try to get Jaylin to accept their bonding.

The well developed plot is very intriguing with some surprises that I certainly didn’t see coming. The author has created a wonderful shifter world that moves at a quick pace and keeps the reader engaged throughout. Her strong and compelling characters are easily related to and draw the reader deeper into the story and her writing style paints a very vivid picture of the story that makes the personalities and emotions pop off the page. I could understand where Jaylin was coming from, but I totally emphasized with Aidan through most of the story. At one point though, I really wanted to hit Aidan upside the head. The story even made me cry at one point and it had a great ending.

This is a great book with some very interesting concepts and lots of tension, both sexual and emotional. The only thing I thing I found wrong with the book is that I think the author might want to include a glossary to define some of the mating vocabulary as I found them to be somewhat confusing. It was not so confusing as to detract from the story in any way but it just might make things a little clearer. Once I started the book, I couldn’t stop turning the pages, I had to follow Jaylin and Aidan’s story to the end. I can’t wait to read more on these bewitching characters.

Book Blurb for Aidan

Is the gift of eternal love a blessing or a curse?

After years of counseling grieving shifters, psychiatrist and half-shifter, Dr. Jaylin Avgar has become jaded on shifter mating. She wants to marry a human and forget about the love for eternity crap. Then she meets Aidan O’Connell, an infuriatingly laid back shifter who represents everything she doesn’t want. Yet, the more he pursues her, the more she craves a future with him. Only one thing stands in her way: death. Can she overcome her fear of losing Aidan to the one guarantee in life?

Millionaire consultant, Aidan O’Connell knows he’ll one day meet a woman who’ll awaken an unrelenting mating instinct. Unfortunately, that woman is Jaylin, who has no qualms about telling him that he and his so-called eternity can shove it. When she pushes him away, he takes a drastic step so she can no longer escape. The close proximity throws the instinct into overdrive. Can he control the need engrained in him until he’s certain she will reciprocate the bond, or will a moment of weakness doom him to hell on earth?
