I'm not sure why, but I was expecting something else than what I actually received. Based on the description, I was thinking this would be some dark sexy Stockholm syndrome-esque story. Not to mention I recently saw this shelved at Barnes and Noble in the New Adult section, if you're looking for something that's a mix of genuine scary sexy, it's best to pass on this book. Ghost, albeit a mountain of a man, is as gentle and lost as your kidnapee, Madison. He's just a little better hiding it.
That being said, I ended up really enjoying this book nonetheless. I love reading in the bathtub, and I refilled it three times with hot water to read this entire book in one sitting. Even though Madison is abducted, this is more of a blossoming love slash character study than an action packed thriller. Ghost and Madison come to truly see each other gradually, and nothing felt forced. Although I was able to guess the identity of the mysterious Ghost's employer because there aren't a whole lot of characters in the book, I still enjoyed the romance portion. I would have liked to see Ghost be genuinely frightening and straddle the moral fence a bit, but taken at face value the story is entertaining and worth a read.
Madison Frost is desperate to escape her life. The daughter of a prominent business man, she has everything she could ask for. Enormous, muscular, and filled with secrets, the man they call Ghost is an enigmatic mercenary as dangerous as he is compelling, and Madison is trapped with him. She doesn’t know who hired him or why, but the more time she spends with him, the more she realizes he's not what he seems. Beneath his rough exterior lies an unexpected gentleness, and a heart as broken and battered as her own.But as Madison lets her walls down for the first time in her life, Ghost holds tight to his, hiding secrets that could rock her very foundation.
