“Twist of Fate” by Regine Abel centers around a complex interrelationship between two races that have been exploited by an evil villain who is still at large. Ghan has watched his colleague and friend Khel get cured from the Taint but he knows his own time is running out. Discovering a closely guarded secret about Tuureans may change more than just his life and the implications may be world-shaking.
This science fiction romance is part of the ‘Veredian Chronicles’ series and is a fascinatingly complex tale. The story is told in alternating points of view of three main characters so it’s important to pay attention to the chapter headings. There are a myriad of characters and although it is possible to read this as a stand-alone story, I think it would probably be much better to read the previous stories in the series just because there is so much going on and understanding the implications of certain events as well as the complex relationships will be easier. I was fascinated by the dynamics between the different species, startled by the revelations, and intrigued by these folks. There are multiple threads that are unfolding and I am definitely interested in learning more about this universe and look forward to reading more tales set in it.
For her, he would endure a lifetime of agony.
First Officer Ghan has entered the final stages of the Taint, the deadly disease that kills most Xelixian males by the age of forty. He is determined to bring an elusive foe to justice before his body shuts down completely.
When tragedy strikes a close ally, he finds his soulmate in an unexpected twist of fate. If only she had revealed herself sooner, she could have cured him. Now, she can only keep him in limbo. Is it too late for them or will fate deal them a new hand?
This new chapter of the epic Veredian Chronicles saga will take you through a whirlwind of gut-wrenching emotions, danger, and passion as earthshattering secrets are revealed, and the bonds of friendship and family are put to the test.
