It is amazing to me that so much information can be packed into the single volume known as “The World Almanac”. I find myself getting sidetracked by such things as the history of the National Anthem (and its words), instructions on how to fly the flag, a complete description of the branches of the government and the personnel who fill the positions. I was surprised to see color pictures of tragedies and significant events, notable people who have died, instructions on first aid, the year in review and many other facts that probably will come in handy for any trivia contest. The downside to packing so much information into such a compact space is that the print is extremely small and there are just over 1000 very thin pages. There are undoubtedly those who just consult the internet for any information that is desired but those of us who prefer print books will be greatly impressed by the breadth of subjects that are covered.
“The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2013” is an amazing reference book filled with a plethora of information that can keep one distracted for hours. There are pictures, quotes, statistics and general information sections. The complete text for the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the electoral map, pictures of celebrities, descriptions of personalities, countries, historical events and reference tables for a wide variety of subjects including planets, high and low temperatures all over the United States, calendars, measurements. A wealth of information compiled in one very densely packed volume.
