The Pleasure Project

This trio of stories showcases three very different aspects of the future which are unified by the spicy stories which feature intrepid heroines and the men who capture their hearts. Author JAX delivers a wonderfully compact but complex story peopled by intriguing characters who have overcome remarkable obstacles both individually and as a collective. There are some similarities to a couple of very popular paranormal series which also feature humans who have been irrevocably altered and sadistically tortured by scientific research but the story is compelling and I would definitely like to read more about this particular society. Jenna McCormick’s poignant story provides an amazingly high-tech bachelorette party as background for a sizzling relationship which explores the parameters of expectations and convention. The contrast between the pragmatic older woman and the younger man who has tired of being exploited for his looks and sexual prowess gives a nice emotional punch to the story. Cassie Ryan’s tale is a bit disjointed but has entertaining elements such as a snarky and opinionated ‘pleasure probe’ to lighten the weighty subject matter and there are several very spicy scenes to tempt the erotica reader. I am a little confused about the sequence of events that cause the heroine to have such a vicious reputation and the premise behind the conflict and subsequent events are a bit too superficially addressed for me and the attraction between purported opponents develops unrealistically in my opinion. Overall, the entire volume provides a nice variety of futuristic erotic romances.

“the pleasure project” is an anthology with stories by JAX, Jenna McCormick and Cassie Ryan. “Science of Pleasure” by JAX follows scientist Jenesis DeBruehl whose research into anti-aging is corrupted and results in a group of unwilling subjects who become immortals known as the Morphates. Hired by the very people she has inadvertently wronged, Jenesis must learn to work with Kincaid (Kin) Gregory, Alpha leader of Dark Philadelphia before their nemesis finds a way to destroy their lives yet again. “Project Seduction” by Jenna McCormick is an erotic science fiction novella that provides a sensual twist on the cougar theme as licensed pleasure companion Jace Donovan explores his attraction to a supermodel’s mother, Evie Ripley. Unfortunately, Evie has trouble believing that the man who makes a living providing companionship to lonely women could truly be interested in a hardworking inn owner. “A Pirate’s Pleasure” by Cassie Ryan puts Captain Dare McFadyen, heir to a space shipping and pleasure liner company in direct opposition to the stubborn Captain Dani McGovern who is also known as the dreaded Red Death, a pirate with a fearsome reputation. Their sizzling attraction is complicated by their widely divergent goals but that may only be the beginning of their problems.
