I am always delighted to see a new story by this author who does such an excellent job of combining a deliciously erotic story with glimpses of the difficulties facing those who love someone of the same sex. It is always difficult to see the rejection from family and so-called friends that must be overcome in order to have the freedom to pursue one’s heart but this story provides suspense and heat as the main characters work out the challenges in their respective packs. It was fascinating to watch the spell that Paris casts over those who see him perform even though it was very creepy to see the lengths his stalker would go through in order to have him. Hopefully there will be future stories featuring these very different shapeshifters.
“The Pack or the Panther” by Tara Lain is a paranormal m/m story that introduces Cole Harker, alphanta, i.e. next leader, of his werewolf clan, destined to secure a pack alliance through a mating arranged by his alpha father. Unfortunately, the alphanta of the Marketo pack, Analiese, has her own plans which do not include tying herself to Cole. Her sexy and limber half-brother, Paris, reciprocates Cole’s attraction but has no interest in clan politics, partly because of his solitary panther nature. When Paris’ life and freedom are threatened, Cole proves that his actions speak louder than his tongue-tied words and his clan is forced to recognize that his heart has been given to a very unique lover.
Cole Harker, son of an alpha werewolf, is bigger and more powerful than most wolves, tongue-tied in groups, and gay. For twenty-four years, he’s lived to please his family and pack—even letting them promise him in marriage to female werewolf Analiese to secure a pack alliance and help save them from a powerful gangster who wants their land. Then Cole meets Analiese’s half-brother, panther shifter Paris Marketo, and for the first time, Cole wants something for himself.
When Analiese runs off to marry a human, Cole finally has a chance with Paris, but the solitary cat rejects him, the pack, and everything it represents. Then Cole discovers the gangster wants Paris too and won’t rest until he has him. What started as a land dispute turns into World War Wolf! But the bigger fight is the battle between cats and dogs.
