The Moonstone and Miss Jones

Paranormal Investigator #2

This surprisingly erotic steampunk tale has quite a few quirky individuals and gives an intriguing view of Victorian London and an alternate universe. The characters are not quite the typical ones that one expects, ranging from lusty Phaeton and seductive America to a cyborg type individual and unusual bodyguards with mysterious weapons and abilities. I was a little disconcerted by the oddities that seem to abound, from the methods of traveling between the alternate realities to the question of whether Phaeton was truly kidnapped or what was the purpose of the beings with tentacles that may have been organic or may have had some mechanical component. Perhaps a familiarity with the first volume of the series would clear up some of the confusion and give better insight into Phaeton’s persona since it was difficult to determine his true goals at times and I also wasn’t sure whether ‘inklings’ were or not required for transportation. I am also still at a loss about the true purpose of the Moonstone and who or what the unravelings will affect. Hopefully, clarification will be provided in the next adventure!

“The Moonstone and Miss Jones” is part of the ‘Phaeton Black, Paranormal Investigator’ series by Jillian Stone and continues the saga of the remarkable couple, Phaeton Black and America Jones who were introduced in “The Seduction of Phaeton Black”. America is struggling to deal with Phaeton’s mysterious disappearance as well as the results of their sojourn on her ship but there are even more weighty matters which center around the powerful Moonstone committed to Phaeton’s guardianship The occupants of a couple of universes are determined to use the stone for their own purposes and refuse to consider the impact on anything or anyone else. Phaeton and America and their allies must find a way to keep both worlds intact but may find the task impossible.
