The Last Boyfriend

Book Two of the Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy

“The Last Boyfriend” is the second tale in Nora Roberts’ ‘The Inn Trilogy’ which centers around the delightful Inn BoonsBoro that the Montgomery family has restored and elevated to a work of art. The three brothers continue to work in harmony to bring their individual talents and expertise to the project which is rapidly approaching completion. Owen is detail oriented and plans meticulously but fails to establish an immediate rapport with the Inn’s resident ghost, Lizzy. Avery McTavish has known Owen since they were both small children and actually became engaged to him when she was 5. Unfortunately, he threw her over for an older girl. Several decades later, Lizzy the ghost gets involved in yet another attempt at matchmaking even as she begins to communicate in a much more clear fashion and presents the Montgomery family and friends with a new mystery to solve. The wedding plans and house construction for Beckett, Clare and the three boys continue to move forward even as Hope the innkeeper helps prepare the Inn for its major role in the lives of all of the family and close friends. Big changes in the lives of some of the brothers and unexpected discoveries continue to enrich the close-knit family and their friends as they change the town, one building at a time.

Another lushly romantic tale from the talented pen of a queen of the genre. The allure of these tales lies in the multiple details that convey such realism while either reminding the reader of similar occurrences in their own lives or making one wish for similar friends and relatives. The struggle to combine work and personal lives, the hard work necessary to achieve goals and the dreams that can become reality with enough resources are all conveyed in this tale of a unique resort. The imagination that creates theme rooms patterned after great romantic couples and the furnishings which accurately reflect the period settings for these lovers are meticulously described with the joy of capturing the appropriate mood conveyed effortlessly. The various types of love and the trials and tribulations faced by those involved in such relationships are beautifully conveyed in this enjoyable addition to the series.

Getting Avery to let down her guard is going to take longer than he expected—and so will getting her to realize that her first boyfriend is going to be her last…
