“The Billionaire Next Door” by Jessica Lemmon is a fun and sexy story that follows Rachel Foster’s search for a decent job where she is truly appreciated and a romantic partner who is worthy of her love. One can’t help but sigh over the concept of being swept away from one’s cares on a whirlwind trip to paradise with a sizzling Thor-type guy but I struggled with the dichotomy of Rachel’s reactions. I realize she was trying to maintain her independence in the face of the overwhelmingly sexy and rich guy she inadvertently starts off on the wrong foot with, but for me, the prospect of being paid for professional expertise would not be something I would turn down if I was strapped for cash and looking for a job. This is in addition to the premise that a guy in charge of a fairly impactful aspect of his family business would be so busy trying to justify his right to manage his branch but so clueless about how to improve it until a fortuitous consultant just happens to come into his life.
There are a few other inconsistencies that irked me as well, BUT the overall story was enjoyable and blends heat and emotion nicely, and who can resist the adorable Adonis? This is part of a series, and perhaps I missed some of Tag’s background by not reading the first book, but this can still be read as a stand-alone story with no problem and there is definitely a delicious and emotional hook leading to the next book, which I am anxious to read. I also hope that Oliver (and Adonis) get a chance in the spotlight as well.
This contemporary romance story is part of the ‘Billionaire Bad Boys’ series and features Taggert (Tag) Crane, who is struggling to improve the profits of his share of the company business. His normal love-them-and-leave-them-happy approach to dating is short-circuited when he meets the intriguing dog-sitter, Rachel, in the apartment below his. Each of them has to work past the history that has brought them to this point in life in order to enjoy the attraction they are feeling, but their end goals seem to be miles apart…or are they?
Can't Buy Me Love
It's Tag Crane's job to be the life of the party. Traveling from one exotic locale to another is just part of running the luxurious Crane Hotel empire. But even paradise isn't perfect. Devising a new business strategy is keeping Tag up at night-and so is the Great Dane barking at all hours in the apartment below his. To muzzle the problem, Tag charges downstairs . . . right into the most beautiful, blond distraction he's ever seen.
Dog-sitting by day, bartending by night. It's not exactly the life Rachel Foster dreamed of. But when Tag Crane rushes in, all mountain-man shoulders and obscenely sexy smile, needing her help for the Crane Hotels, it's a fantasy come true. What's the harm in a fun no-strings fling? Only a fool would give her heart to a billionaire player like Tag-until suddenly the one man who can't be caught is the one flirting with forever . . .
