It’s always exciting to discover a new series by this delightful author, and it’s even more fun when some of the characters are connected to other books, because it’s like catching up with old friends. The interconnections between the various members of several families make the cameos entertaining because it allows the reader who is familiar with their stories to catch up on their lives even as it piques the curiosity of those who haven’t read those volumes yet. This story can be read as a stand-alone but would definitely be savored more if the books in ‘The Duke’s Men’ have been read. I enjoyed the quirks of Yvette’s character, such as her propensity to learn new ‘cant’ words, but for some reason she didn’t really appeal to me until the last third of the book when she decides to fight for what she wants, although it seemed that she made an awfully radical decision without a lot of consideration for the repercussions. The gradual revelation of Jeremy’s history was a nice twist and it was fun to see the germination of the ‘Sinners Club’ but the story seemed a bit low key and less intense until things heated up toward the end and reminded me of why I enjoy this author’s works so much. The stage has been set for several of the secondary characters to have their time in the spotlight and I look forward to learning how the other ‘Sinners’ get their happy ever after, especially since some of them have their own unconventional reputations or bumps in the road to deal with. Hopefully, there will be many more of these entertaining stories to allow us to visit old friends and discover new ones!

But he may have met the one person who can find a way past them, but does she want to?
