Take Over at Midnight

The Night Stalkers, #5

The exciting stories in this fantastic series are filled with vivid imagery and remarkable scenarios that remind the reader of the danger and stress that these warriors are subjected to and willingly face. This author creates an enthralling world with charismatic people and provides an exciting and suspenseful read that is leavened by glimpses of the humanity that is displayed through their fears and hangups. I confess to being disappointed that the larger-than-life persona of Major Emily Beale displays a significant weakness that is out of character from my perception of her but again, it is a reminder that she too, is only human. I was frustrated by the hazing that Lola goes through as she is trying to integrate herself into the unit and I thought that her radical solution to a conflict between herself and Emily was a bit farfetched and likely to reap far more severe repercussions than indicated. I am always happy to get glimpses into the lives of characters from previous stories and was particularly intrigued by the wisdom that the young Dilya bestows upon those around her. This was another very entertaining tale in an impressive series of tales about military personnel who definitely live up to their motto of ‘Night Stalkers Don’t Quit’ in both their professional and personal lives.

“Take Over Midnight” by M.L. Buchman is part of the ‘Night Stalkers’ military romance series and features Chief Warrant 2 Lola La Rue who has just joined the elite group. Sergeant Tim Mahoney is the crew chief who helps keep everything moving smoothly but he is puzzled by his attraction to the prickly woman who doesn’t know how to be accepted for herself. They face danger and virtually impossible missions as a matter of course but the hazard to their hearts may be more than they are equipped to cope with.
