This intriguing look at the behind-the-scenes activity related to the challenging sport of bull riding is both informative and a sobering reminder of the price being paid by both those who serve in the military and those who participate in an occasionally life-threatening sport. It was fascinating seeing both the intensity of enthusiasm that surrounds these physically demanding challenges and watching the hurdles that must be surmounted to become accepted in the close-knit PBR society contrasted with some of the challenges that face a female who serves in harm’s way. I enjoyed watching Katya find her feet and become confident in her training and her abilities (particularly when she reminds a co-worker that she is a highly-trained member of the military!) and it was heartwarming to watch Cam and Katya find their way. Although part of a series, there is absolutely no problem reading this book as a stand-alone. This is the first book that I have read by this engaging author but I definitely will be on the lookout for more!
“Sweet on You” by Laura Drake is part of the ‘Sweet on a Cowboy’ series and is a delicious contemporary western romance that gives a glimpse of the activities surrounding the sport of bull riding. Katya Smith goes out of her comfort zone in an effort to deal with the aftermath of her horrific experiences while serving as an army medic. Her struggle to understand the world of bull riding while working as a physical therapist for PBR (Professional Bull Riding) is already challenging but her getting off o the wrong foot with two-time world champion Cam Cahill threatens to tip the scales in the wrong direction. Cam has his own demons to fight, including fears about his future and the uptight new therapist is definitely not helping matters...until she is...and he has to re-evaluate his preconceptions about almost everything. The problem is, she does too and it might not be something she is willing to do either!
A Love as Bold as a Texas Sunset . . .
Ex-army medic Katya Smith has always healed other people's pain. Now she has to deal with her own. Taking a job as an athletic trainer on the Pro Bull Riding circuit seems like the perfect escape from her grief-except Katya doesn't know anything about bulls, and even less about the tough men who ride them. She doesn't expect to fall for the sport, or for one tantalizing cowboy who tumbles her defenses.
For rodeo champion Cam Cahill, fifteen years of bucking bulls have taken their toll on his body. Before he retires, he wants a final chance at the world title-and he doesn't need some New Age gypsy telling him how to do his job. But when the stunning trainer with the magical hands repairs more than his worn muscles, everything changes. Soon Cam finds himself trying to persuade Katya to forgive her past so she can build a future . . . with him.
