Soul of Discretion

“Soul of Discretion” by Susan Mac Nicol and M. Tasia features Canadian Mountie, Sergeant Nick Cooper, and the man who starts out as a hook-up but turns out to have quite a few unexpected facets, Simon Bridgeworth. Their private lives threaten to spill over in their professional personas when Nick is assigned to work on a homicide case that involves Simon and his company. The lines become blurred as each man pursues justice, but their biggest challenge may be figuring out what role they will have in each other’s life.

This adult contemporary m/m romantic suspense tale follows two sexy men who morph from strangers meeting through an app for a one-night stand to a team determined to get justice for Simon’s murdered friend and employee. I liked the heat between the men and the hint of danger that overshadows their developing relationship but I didn’t quite connect to either man as much as I would have liked. For me, some of the motives were a little murky and I couldn’t quite appreciate the annoyance when punishment was enacted since rules had indeed been broken. The timing was a little erratic and some things were glossed over in order to move the story along, but I suspect part of that is due to the challenges of co-writing. Despite all of that, I enjoyed the story and one particular secondary character, particularly because of the Canadian-British connection and contrast, and I wouldn’t mind seeing these guys in future tales.

Book Blurb for Soul of Discretion

Simon Bridgeworth believes in loyalty, and keeping things in-house. When he discovers his best friend, who has been running the Canadian division of Simon's tech empire, has been skimming millions from the company, Simon flies to Toronto to get to the bottom of the theft and learns his friend has been murdered. Devastated and at a loose end, Simon knows there's no way the company's problems can be kept under wraps now. Imagine his surprise when he learns the Mountie investigating the murder is the first repeat Simon has allowed himself in years.

Sergeant Nick Cooper is a proud member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He's served his country in the military, and now he's protecting the citizenry of Toronto. But devotion to duty is no longer enough. On a whim, Nick hooks up with Aristocrat69 on crUIzer, and what started as one night of incredible sex turns into an attraction neither man can ignore. When a grisly mob murder sends Nick to the Breakforce corporation, he is shocked to discover his lover is none other than its CEO. When Simon's life is threatened, ethical lines blur as Nick does anything to keep him safe - no cost is too high for the man who has become Nick's everything.
