“Sleep No More” is a romantic suspense tale from the talented Iris Johansen. It had all of the requisite elements that characterize her suspenseful tales but somehow I wasn’t as enthralled as I usually am by her tales. I had wondered whether the series which features Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn was going to continue and I was relieved to discover that their story is still evolving although not much progress was made in this book. Somehow, Eve’s bullheadedness and Joe’s tolerance didn’t quite ring true for me after all of the refinements to their relationship that has occurred over the years but I did enjoy their interactions with the extremely observant and strongly opinionated Kendra Michaels. The introduction of a new member of the family who is extremely naive to standard societal interactions will undoubtedly cause bumps in the new relationships (it was very entertaining to read about the reactions to her proposal for using Quinn’s personal services) but is somewhat reminiscent of the travails involving Catharine Ling’s son, Luke from previous books. There is definitely room for the saga to continue and I look forward to reading more about these charismatic people.
The resolution of Eve Duncan’s search for her beloved daughter Bonnie has left her more contented and comfortable in her relationship with the stalwart Joe Quinn but Eve’s mother abruptly disrupts her daughter’s life with a startling request. A search for a missing woman leads the couple to California as they seek to uncover clues to a well-kept secret and learn the history behind the strained relationship between Eve and her mother. A chilling adversary is encountered who expands his focus to include those who stand between him and his prey while Eve and Joe enlist talented allies to help them even as they strive to keep each other safe.
