Sins of the Angels by Linda Poitevin introduces her series "The Grigori Legacy" and detective Alexandra Jarvis who has overcome the tragedy of her childhood and is an integral part of the Toronto homicide division. Aramael, a Power, is part of the Sixth Choir and is a Hunter who was devastated the previous time he was sent after his brother Caim and resents being tasked to act as a Guardian to Alexandra, a descendant of the Grigori. Caim has escaped his imprisonment and is on a killing spree that is terrorizing the city even as he searches for a Nephilim who will enable him to return to the One's presence. Aramael is very reluctant to be assigned the unpalatable goal of recapturing his brother and he does not appreciate being put in the position of having to partner Alex but he is shocked to discover that she is able to see him much clearer than she should be able to. Alex has struggled with her the knowledge of her mother's mental illness and fears to discover that she has inherited the tendency but is unaware that she is destined to play a key role in the struggle between Lucifer's followers and those who oppose them. Both Aramael and Alex must face unpalatable truths and learn to accept each other if they are going to stop Caim but there are other greater issues at stake that may change the entire fragile balance between good and evil.
An exciting and intriguing introduction to a new paranormal series. Fascinating characters and a nicely layered mystery that is being gradually revealed. A nice twist on the standard fallen angel mythos with interesting gradually building relationships. Looking forward to the next in the series.
A detective with a secret lineage. An undercover Hunter with a bullet-proof soul. And a world made to pay for the sins of an angel...
Homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis answers to no one. Especially not to the new partner assigned to her in the middle of a gruesome serial killer case-a partner who is obstructive, irritatingly magnetic, and arrogant as hell.
Aramael is a Power--a hunter of the Fallen Angels. A millennium ago, he sentenced his own brother to eternal exile for crimes against humanity. Now his brother is back and wreaking murderous havoc in the mortal realm. To find him, Aramael must play second to a human police officer who wants nothing to do with him and whose very bloodline threatens both his mission and his soul.
Now, faced with a fallen angel hell-bent on triggering the apocalypse, Alex and Aramael have no choice but to join forces, because only together can they stop the end of days.
