This exciting romantic suspense story is the first in what promises to be a terrific series that centers around an intriguing combination of men with an impressive combination of talents. The exotic locale and non-stop action keep one enthralled from the very first page and the balance of realism and adventure mixed with a somewhat complicated romance contribute to the allure of the story. Each of the males in the team deserves to be spotlighted separately yet the team that they form is much stronger than the sum of their parts. There are several threads left dangling, both for the main conflict and regarding various team members and a few incidents that don’t quite ring true but I look forward to seeing what exciting tale the author weaves next. A fun and exhilarating read.
“SEAL of Honor” by Tonya Burrows is part of the HORNET series and details the formation of the Hostage Rescue and Negotiation Team (HORNET) which is led by Gabriel (Gabe) Bristow after a serious injury cuts short his SEAL career by forcing him to take medical retirement. Audrey Van Amee is desperate to save her brother who has been taken for ransom and inadvertently lands in the middle of the rescue efforts but refuses to be sent away to safety. The question of her involvement complicates matters as do the various handicaps that hinder the hastily cobbled together team but they are determined to achieve their goal of rescue...or die trying.
It’s a good thing Gabe Bristow lives and breathes the Navy SEAL credo, “the only easy day was yesterday,” because today, his life is unrecognizable. When his prestigious career comes to a crashing halt, he’s left with a bum leg and few prospects for employment that don’t include a desk.
That is, until he’s offered the chance to command a private hostage rescue team and free a wealthy American businessman from Colombian paramilitary rebels. It seems like a good deal—until he meets his new team: a drunk Cajun linguist, a boy-genius CIA threat analyst, an FBI negotiator with mob ties, a cowboy medic, and an EOD expert as volatile as the bombs he defuses. Oh, and who could forget the sexy, frustratingly impulsive Audrey Van Amee? She’s determined to help rescue her brother—or drive Gabe crazy. Whichever comes first.
As the death toll rises, Gabe’s team of delinquents must figure out how to work together long enough to save the day. Or, at least, not get themselves killed.Because Gabe’s finally found something worth living for, and God help him if he can’t bring her brother back alive.
