Romeo's Regret

Wildcat Hills Pride Book 5

“Romeo’s Regret” by Liza Kay is part of the ‘Wildcat Hills Pride’ series that features a very unusual pack of shifters comprised of various felids, including tiger, panther, and ocelot. I really like the concept and I liked the glimpses of the various males in the pack but I think it is difficult to read this story as a stand-alone, even though a little of the backstory is alluded to. There is so much going on and so many hidden conflicts, plus the complication of a vampire who was an enemy but is entrusted with treating the injured, a conflict with the Council, and possible involvement of a foreign pack with a spy already in place…well, it was a bit confusing to understand.

Despite this, I enjoyed the interaction between the main characters although I was a bit bemused at the concept of their two types of shifter becoming mates. The bad guys’ other forms were surprising as well, and I would be interested in learning more about their characteristics, as they are not typical animals featured in shifter stories. I think this is an imaginative story with engaging characters but perhaps it needs to be a bit longer or have a recap that orients new readers to previous events.

This adult m/m paranormal story centers around ocelot shifter Romeo and his disconcerting bond with shifter Jules Armitage. The men are mates yet the relationship seems doomed since Jules is a spy for the Council…or is he?
