Rebel

A Vicky Peterwald Novel, #3

“Vicky Peterwald: Rebel” by Mike Shepherd continues the saga of a woman who is learning so much about herself and those around her. I think it is my favorite of the series because I can finally see Vicky thinking for herself and doing things the way she wants to rather than being at the mercy of everyone else’s decisions. Of course, for me, the romantic aspect of the series is definitely moving slower than molasses, especially given that there is no guarantee that both Vicky and Mannie will survive. Personally, I have no real interest in the armament and number of ships that are mustered, nor how they are converted to other purposes, but I understand that this is something other folks like to analyze and critique, and I admit that it adds to the tension and verisimilitude of the story. I love the rise and fall of the story as things ramp up, and although it was a little annoying that things end on somewhat of a cliffhanger, I love the idea that things are going to circle around to connect everything together.

As always, this author has provided an exciting episode in one of his ongoing space opera series and I am anxious to read the next installment. I think that it is possible but probably not recommended to read this as a stand-alone title. Those who enjoy adventurous tales played out among the stars should join the series and become acquainted with Vicky Peterwald and then go back and get enthralled by the Kris Longknife series!

This science fiction story provides the next chapter in the ongoing saga of Grand Duchess Vicky Peterwald, following her as she rebels against the depredations and machinations of her evil stepmother. Learning how to juggle the responsibilities of her roles in the military and in the monarchy while trying to keep safe all of those both on planets and in space will require ingenuity and determination, and staying alive long enough to see things through…with a little help from her friends and allies.

Book Blurb for Rebel

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Kris Longknife series comes a military science fiction adventure featuring Vicky Peterwald...

Vicky Peterwald is no longer just the heir apparent to an imperial dynasty. She survived naval training and proved her mettle in combat to help the starving people of the ravaged world of St. Petersburg. Now, she is truly a Grand Duchess, leading a growing battle fleet in a rebellion against the tyranny of her stepmother, the Empress.

Determined to stop her spoiled stepdaughter’s betrayal from upsetting the balance of power within the Peterwald Empire, the Empress is leading her own armada to St. Petersburg, intent on killing Vicky and every soul on the planet that gave her refuge.

But Vicky is her father’s daughter, and it would be a grave mistake to underestimate her...
