“Pint-sized Protector” by Eve Langlais has some great twists but I wasn’t thrilled by the story. I had a difficult time connecting with the heroine (what can you expect from someone with the moniker “Rabid Squirrel”?) who seems to carry a chip on her shoulder. I love heroines who are small but mighty and her journey to get to her current position is admirable, but I felt Kacy tries too hard and has a remarkably violent and physically aggressive personality. Marcus is pretty obtuse for a bodyguard and I thought there were certain standards involved with being in charge of a person’s safety…that requires one actually pay attention to one’s client, lol. There is a kind of comic book aura mixed with an attrition murder mystery that culminates in a dangling ending, so I was a bit frustrated when I finished the story since I ended up with far more questions than answers. Perhaps the brevity of the story kept things from being fleshed out completely, and the next tale in the series will provide some resolution.
This romantic suspense novella is part of the ‘Bad Boys Inc.’ series and centers on Secundus Academy graduate Kacy, whose assignment to protect a client puts her in immediate opposition with his longtime bodyguard and friend, Marcus. Sparks fly but attraction does as well, and when they have to find a way to keep their charge from being murdered, they discover they are much better working together than being adversaries.
She might be small but she'll still kick your ass.
An assignment to babysit a rich dude isn’t Kacy’s idea of a fun assignment. Especially since he and his bodyguard are just like all the other boys she knows, thinking she’s too tiny to pack a punch.
I’ll show him.
She’ll show him that sexy things come in small packages and he won’t be able to stop himself from falling for the pint-sized protector. Problem is, who’ll protect his heart?
When a gunman threatens her life, he wants to send her away, but her Latina pride won’t allow herself to be treated like anything less than a pro.
Will pride also stand in the way of her happiness?
