This sensual novella reminds us of the intense connection between Dragos and Pia even as it provides a few lighter moments, such as when Dragos ponders WWPD (what would Pia do) or finds a way to circumvent rules to protect his lover. The brevity of the story prevents the depth that I have come to expect from this author but this tale gives enough glimpses of each character to whet one’s appetite for more stories about these paranormal beings. There are so many romantic reflections that give a softening effect to the frightening beast that Dragos can become, but one of my favorites is, “The dragon in him was baffled by the unrelenting drive he felt to be with her, and stupefied by the experience of being in love.” Sigh. I also was delighted to get a glimpse of “Stinkpot” and can’t wait to learn more about this being, who I am sure will have a pivotal role in the future. This was a quick, exciting, and sexy read, best appreciated by those who are fans of the series, and a delicious lagniappe to enjoy while waiting for the next Elder Races story!
“Pia Does Hollywood” by Thea Harrison is part of a trilogy involving those in the ‘Elder Races’ series and takes place after “Dragos Goes to Washington” and before “Liam Takes Manhattan”. As part of a decision reached by group accord (to Dragos’ disgust), Pia travels to Los Angeles to guest at Light Fae Queen Tatiana’s estate. The only problem is that there is a threat that rapidly spreads to encompass the Cuelebre family as well as all of the Elder Races and Pia is determined to give her all to save those she cares about, no matter the risk to her own health.
After making a diplomatic pact with humankind and the other leaders of the Elder Races, Pia Cuelebre, mate to Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr, reluctantly heads to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen, Tatiana, before the busy Masque season hits New York in December.
Dragos has never let the lack of an invitation stop him from doing anything he wanted. Unwilling to let his mate make the trip without him, he travels to southern California in secret to be with her.
But when an ancient enemy launches a shattering assault against the Light Fae, Dragos and Pia must intercede. The destruction threatens to spread and strike a mortal blow against all of the magically gifted, both human and Elder Race alike.
Working with the Light Fae to neutralize the danger, Dragos and Pia find their deepest vulnerabilities challenged and their most closely held secrets threatened with exposure.
PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD is the second part of a three-story series about Pia, Dragos, and and their son, Liam. Each story stands alone, but fans might want to read all three: DRAGOS GOES TO WASHINGTON, PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD, and LIAM TAKES MANHATTAN.
