No Breaking My Heart

Barefoot William Beach

“No Breaking My Heart” by Kate Angell is a quirky romance with sometimes hilarious interactions between the main characters, Alyn Jane and Halo Todd. There are poignant moments, especially those involving Alyn’s younger brother, Danny, and the family pug, Quigley. The grace with which Halo takes on all of the challenges he encounters is heartwarming, as are the relationships that form on the basis of a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, for me, there are plenty of awkward moments that don’t ring true for me, and I found myself having trouble remembering the dynamics of Alyn’s family and a bit surprised at the lack of grief on the part of the siblings, given the freshness of their loss. I wasn’t enamored of Halo’s facility for telling whoppers and think things were a little too easily tied up, although I did enjoy the heat between Alyn and Halo. I was a bit distracted by the secondary romance and found myself enjoying that one more than the main story and I hope that couple gets more time in the spotlight. This is a nice light romance that will be enjoyed by sports enthusiasts as well as animal lovers, and I am sure that there will be other fun stories involving other members of the baseball team in the future.

This adult contemporary sports romance features a woman who has trusted far too easily and been burned, and a baseball player whose competitive nature influences all of his actions. Recent tragedies compel Alyn Jane to take drastic measures but even she is surprised by the results when her family becomes involved with one of the star players for the Rogues baseball team. The lines between make-believe and reality begin to blur, and it will require teamwork to achieve everyone’s goals. Fortunately, there’s plenty of courage and assistance to spare.
