Night's Honor

A Novel of the Elder Races, #7

It’s always fun to visit the world that contains these various paranormal beings and it was intriguing to see the Vampyre machinations from a different perspective, after the ousting of Carling. The relationship that develops does not quite ring true for me in that it develops a bit too quickly and becomes very intense but there is still that delicious dichotomy between what is traditionally human and the rules that apply to the non-humans in this universe. Some of the events were dismayingly predictable and Tess is an odd mixture of naive and canny but there is no denying the allure of the Vampyre culture which has its own rituals and expectations, particularly since so many of its members are so long-lived. I wasn’t quite convinced that the Djinn would have acceded to the machinations the way depicted, but nonetheless it was an entertaining story and I always am delighted to visit this world because it is populated with such a diversity of beings who can still be taught something by the humans that coexist with them, despite their obvious advantages, and I look forward to additional adventures involving the Elder Races.

“Night’s Honor” by Thea Harrison is part of the ‘Novel of the Elder Races’ series and focuses on the Vampyre contingent, particularly Xavier del Torro. Tess Graham takes a leap of faith and joins Xavier’s household in a bid for protection but discovers that she may have underestimated the price she will need to pay. Political maneuverings threaten to destabilize the fragile balance within the Vampyre community, but Tess may wreak even more havoc if her enemy has anything to say about it. Her only salvation may be the enigma that she presents to Xavier.
