Night and Day

An Eve Duncan Novel, #21

For a brief period of time, I wondered if the Eve Duncan saga was getting a little stale. I wasn’t unhappy that Eve had gotten closure and was going to settle into her happy ever after, but I was going to miss her and all of the intriguing folks around her (corporeal and nonphysical).

“Night and Day” by Iris Johansen reminds me why I enjoy this series so much. The blend of intense and driven folks who care deeply for each other, eerie but believable paranormal elements, and the ever-increasing danger are hallmarks of these books and this one was no exception. I actually missed the story that preceded this one, yet had no trouble getting immersed in the action. The recap established the scenario that leads to young Cara being snatched by her birth mother and the tension and evolution of relationships rockets off on an exciting and enthralling story.

I love the intensity that accompanies the stories that feature these folks, and having so many of my favorites present, including Jane, was such a wonderful bonus. The complicated mystical factors, including the connection to a long-dead woman who may or may not want her treasure found, as well as the new being who is starting to become a force in his own right, give this story that extra dimension that always appeals to me in writings from this prolific author. Those who are squeamish should be advised that there are definitely scenes of violence which underscore the ruthless nature of some of these folks but there are also impressive contrasts between innocence and evil as well as delicious examples of the narrow line that is traversed by some who use their ruthless and deadly skills to protect those they care about.

This romantic suspense addition to the ‘Eve Duncan’ series picks up where the previous story left off, and continues to follow young Cara Delaney, who becomes the key element in a very dangerous game of tug-of-war that relocates to Russia. The frustrating search for a mysterious treasure in the mystical lands of Scotland becomes more important than ever as Eve, Joe, Jane, and Jock strive to save Cara from her mother’s machinations. Eve always has more help than she anticipates, and the new person in her life is determined to protect her in spite of herself, with a little help from the rest of her family.

Book Blurb for Night and Day

Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan risked it all to protect Cara Delaney from the enemies who want her dead. The journey has led them from California to a remote mountain in the Scottish highlands--and earned Eve the distinction of becoming their next target. When, despite all precautions, Cara is taken, Eve must hunt down the very people who want to kill her in order to save the young girl. At a time in her life when she has more at stake than ever before, she unhesitatingly puts it all on the line in a pulse-pounding mission of rescue and survival.

Full of danger, intrigue and heart, Iris Johansen's Night and Day is a breathtaking, high-energy adventure that’s sure to keep readers riveted from the first page to the last.
