This is a wonderfully creative paranormal series featuring a well established wolf shifter clan and the being known as its prince, Rule Turner. He has another memorable chapter added with “Mortal Ties”. His gradually flowering romance with FBI agent Lily Yu has been well documented over the past books even as multiple villains have threatened to disrupt their world. The amazing people who deal with esoteric problems involving magic, alternate dimensions, pack hierarchy and traditions that stretch back over centuries also must deal with commonplace issues such as broken families, wedding jitters and interdepartmental conflicts. I love the bond between these two strong characters and the way that they are becoming more adept at having a give and take relationship (no matter how protective Rule thinks he is being). I always enjoy the acerbic observations of Lily’s grandmother and I was impressed with the evolution of Rule’s relationship with the mantles of his clans. The cameos by other characters continue to give continuity to the series even as the book can stand alone as the main pair cope with the repercussion of events that took place previously. The introduction of an entirely different conflict involving yet another faction adds a new twist to the story and I hope that there will be plenty of additional books in this entertaining series.
“Mortal Ties” by Eileen Wilks is the fantastic addition to her Lupi series which features the charismatic wolf shifter Rule Turner and the remarkable FBI agent Lily Yu. The bonded pair is still planning their unconventional shifter/human wedding but there are unwanted developments which escalate after an object that the magician Cullen is developing is stolen. Rule is still working on juggling his duties as Rho of the Leidolf clan and Lu Nuncio of the Nokolai clan and his family issues somehow cause even more complications for an already touchy balance of power. Multiple allies, including an unexpected ghost, are required to prevent a determined enemy from wreaking destruction upon those who use magic and one never knows when one will need to call on the relatives to lend a helping...paw.
“Eileen Wilks is a truly gifted writer,” (Romance Junkies) and her Novels of the Lupi have drawn readers into a seductive world of action, suspense, and passion. Now, FBI agent Lily Yu tracks a traitor into the darkest shadows yet… FBI agent Lily Yu is living at Nokolai Clanhome with her fiancé, lupi Rule Turner, when an intruder penetrates their territory, stealing the prototpye of a magical device the clan hopes will be worth a fortune--if a few bugs can be worked out . . . But the protoytpe can be dangerously erratic, discharging a bizarre form of mind magic—and it looks like the thief wants it for that very side effect. Worse, whoever stole the device didn’t learn about it by accident. There’s a Nokolai traitor in their midst. Lily and Rule have to find the traitor, the thief, and the prototype. One job proves easy when the thief calls them--and his identity rocks Rule’s world. As they race to recover their missing property, they find Robert Friar’s sticky footprints all over the place. Robert Friar--killer, madman, and acolyte of the Old One the lupi are at war with--an Old One whose power is almost as vast as her ambition to rock the entire world . . .
