This is a fitting end for the series which has showcased the author’s ability to weave a compelling story that mixes a variety of mythological pantheons. The various items of importance which have been sources of contention throughout the series have been augmented by even more and their sometimes dual natures are highlighted. It is heartwarming to see how the relationships have deepened and strengthened between Gwen and her friends and mentors and most of them are pivotal in the final battle although of course, Gwen has the most essential burdens to shoulder. There are unexpected revelations and difficult decisions as well as the need for the unswerving courage that is the hallmark of Gwen’s personality and it was great to see individuals who had featured prominently in other books in the series even as one must mourn the loss of some of the beloved characters. Naturally, this particular volume would be best appreciated if one has read the other stories in this exciting young adult series and although I am sad to see it end, I definitely have enjoyed the wild and imaginative ride the author has provided. I can’t wait to find out what is next from Ms. Estep’s very impressive imagination!
“Killer Frost” by Jennifer Estep is the exciting conclusion to the ‘Mythos Academy’ series which features Gwen Frost. The showdown is at hand to deal with Loki and his minions in their final attempt to restore Loki to his former greatness. Gwen and her allies must use all of the resources at their disposal to make sure that he is not successful but the Academy and all of its members may end up making the ultimate sacrifice...which still may not be enough. The Candle of Sol, one of the Thirteen Artifacts as well as the laurel leaf bracelet that Gwen was gifted with will both play pivotal roles in the struggle but ultimately, Gwen will have to make some of the hardest decisions she has ever made in her life, including what she is willing to sacrifice to achieve the goal she has accepted from Nike.
I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before—and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death…most likely mine.
Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic, and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.
Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good…or I am.
