Chronicles of Nick, #3

“Infamous” by Sherrilyn Kenyon is part of the ‘Chronicles of Nick’ series that explores Nick Gautier’s teen years. It’s tough growing up when the heritage conferred upon you by your absentee father could be responsible for ending the world as you know it. It’s even worse when your mom constantly hassles you because of all of the fights you are in and you seem to be constantly grounded or in detention. What’s even stranger is that you are tutored by Grim (as in Reaper), have discussions with an older version of yourself, are guarded by a daeva demon named Caleb, are employed by a Dark-Hunter who is only active at night and have a hot but secretive girlfriend named Nekoda who won’t tell you exactly what she is or what her ultimate agenda is. Meanwhile, a series of hateful attacks upon Nick and his classmates sows discord and hatred among the students while physical attacks on Nick may ensure that he never reaches the fateful turning point in his life at all.

Another fascinating insight into the life of a smart-mouthed, hormone-riddled, intensely loyal boy who is struggling to find his equilibrium. In other words, a typical teenager. The entertaining glimpse into a different aspect of the Dark-Hunter universe is a bit confusing as the potential futures keep shifting, especially if one is familiar with the subsequent occurrences as described in the adult Dark Hunter series. Nick is an engaging character as he works through the plethora of obstacles that range from homework to attempted murder. More hints are revealed about his background and both Caleb and Nekoda are forced to evaluate their goals for the engaging young man that they are attempting to guard. A great addition to the series.

Book Blurb for Infamous

The world has fallen in love with Nick Gautier and the Dark-Hunters.

Now Nick's saga continues in the next eagerly anticipated volume...

Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That's the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn't the average teenager. He's a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him.

He's learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive and keep a girlfriend so dang hard? But that isn't the primary skill he has to master. Survival is.

And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known.

Or he'll be the one who ends the world. With enemies new and old gathering forces, he will have to call on every part of himself to fight or he'll lose everyone he cares about.

Even himself.
