Golden by Joely Sue Burkhart is a novella featuring Jin, a consort to the Emperor whom he gave to the Crown Prince as wife but who has trained since childhood to serve the Emperor himself as a willing recipient of the pain that he delights in administering. Rejected by her husband and aware of the dangers of putting herself forward for the Emperor to take note of, Jin slowly convinces her sovereign to relieve his tension by beating her, a process which arouses both of them. Jin's plan to become impregnated by the man that she has trained all of her life to serve with the gift of her pain and suffering places her in even more danger and only her quick wits and the loyalty of those few who serve her will allow her to achieve her goals.
An evocative and well-written story that vividly conjures up the intricacies of court intrigue and machinations even as it relays the tale of two people tied together in their desire for the sexual stimulation achieved through the delivery and reception of pain. Looking forward to more works from this author, a wonderfully adept word-artist.
Bred for him…and for his bed.
Golden-eyed Jin has spent her life preparing to be the Emperor's consort. She knows her destiny is to serve the Emperor by indulging the dark desire that he has buried deep inside his heart—the desire to give pain.
Only she can take the pain he yearns to give, and transform it into the most unimaginable pleasure. But to enjoy all the Emperor can give her, she must survive assassination attempts from those who would keep them apart.
Seducing the Emperor is risky…but it's the only way to fulfill her destiny.
