Giving It Up

This was an intensely emotional read. It is difficult to truly understand the complex motivations among all of the multiple tortured characters presented in this sensuous and gritty novel but their actions certainly make this a compelling tale that immerses the reader in a dark world filled with gray areas. There are still quite a few questions remaining about many of the secondary characters so hopefully there will be future stories from this talented author who has told a fascinating and disturbing story that was gripping and difficult to put down. The emotional punch from watching a former victim deal with the unhealthy repercussions of a horrific crime and the wondrous journey that one rough-edged man leads her on despite all of the pressures against their being together makes this an impressive debut novel. I look forward to reading more of Ms Lin’s works.

“Giving It Up” by Amber Lin is the mesmerizing dark and erotic tale of a troubled woman named Allison Winters (Allie) who has never gotten past the traumatic betrayal of her former friend. Her destructive search for rough one night stands is abruptly sidetracked when she meets Colin Murphy and his determined refusal to play by her rules. Colin has his own dark side and responsibilities which make him a somewhat tarnished rescuer but their worlds seem destined to intersect. Allie must decide if she and her daughter will be safer with the complex Murphy family or if she is better off continuing her own tortuous path without the complications they add to her life.

Book Blurb for Giving It Up

Allie prowls the club for a man who will use her hard and then ditch her. Hey, it's not rape if she wants it. Instead she finds Colin, who looks tough but treats her tenderly, despite her protests.

He tempts her, but kindness and a few mindblowing orgasms aren't enough to put her back together again. Allie has no hope for a real relationship. Two years ago her best friend betrayed her in the worst possible way--she’d be stupid to trust a man again. Besides, she has her daughter to think of, the only good thing to have come from that dark night.

But when her rapist returns, threatening her sanity and custody of her daughter, Allie turns to Colin. Under his protection and patient touch, Allie begins to heal and learns to hope. Colin’s no saint, though, and his criminal past draws danger of its own. Allie must fight to protect her child and the man she loves, hoping her newfound power will be enough to save them all.
