Genetic Snare

Details Series Book 2

“Genetic Snare” by Laura Baumbach is an adult m/m science fiction romance that features Aidan, a former 18th century pirate from Earth who was captured by Talos, an Oracan Bounty Hunter from the 26th century, but became his mate instead of his bounty captive. Talos is summoned home because of threats to his father but is also strongly encouraged to finish the mating ritual that will not only test their bond but endanger their lives due to threats from overt and covert enemies. Fortunately, despite his small stature, Aidan is ready and willing to face all obstacles to be with the male he has bonded with.

I’m not normally a big fan of time travel stories but I enjoyed the twist that juxtaposes a pirate with an alien who has remarkably advanced technology. Between the mating heat and the highly risky contest that requires that he use his ingenuity and savvy knowledge to overcome obstacles that his size severely handicaps him against, the odds are against him. The very real affection between him and the being who comes from a technologically advanced society is inspirational and the challenges of physiology, cultural mores, and political maneuvering just allows their bond to stand out even more.

This story is a sequel but I had no problem reading it as a stand-alone story. I definitely would like to read the previous tale, just to get a better understanding of the events that led up to this unique relationship. I am hopeful that some of the technical errors are due to this having been an ARC, but the overall story is fun, exciting, and imaginative and I hope there are other stories featuring this exciting universe.

Book Blurb for Genetic Snare

Betrayal, passion, adventure, primal sex, and a fight to the death.

Mating a 26th century Oracan Bounty Hunter with a 18th century pirate has its little glitches.

Bounty hunter Talos bows to pressure to bring his mate home for the completion of his strict warrior culture’s bonding ritual. Aidan, displaced 18th century Earth pirate— light-fingered, sly, charming and understandably naive about the new world he’s been thrust into— can’t wait. Even if it turns out someone wants him dead. The 26th century looks different, but it turns out to be a lot like his old life!
