One thing that is guaranteed when reading this author’s books is an intensely emotional experience provided by a story that combines the difficult choices faced by flawed human beings and sizzling intimate encounters. The poignant situation that Bethany is experiencing and the ties that prevent her from being able to unconditionally accept the overwhelming avalanche that Jace represents make the conflict very realistic and wrenching. The sensuality that is an inherent part of the two dominant males, Jace and Ash, make this an extremely potent read but the pendulum swing of emotions resulting from Bethany’s actions were sometimes disturbing. I tend to object to helpless heroines and at first I was very irritated with some of Bethany’s choices but her very flaws make her a believable and sympathetic character who faces extremely painful decisions. This is a very spicy read that will enthrall fans of somewhat edgy erotic romances.
“Fever” by Maya Banks is the second sizzling tale in the delightful ‘Breathless’ trilogy and centers on Jace Crestwell who is intensely attracted to a server at his sister Mia’s engagement party to Gabe Hamilton but strangely reluctant to invite her to participate in his usual menage activity with his best friend Ash. Bethany Willis is desperate enough to accept the sensual invitation which promises not only a much needed meal and a place to sleep for the night but also an amazingly hot night with two exceedingly virile males. Jace’s obsession with the deceptively fragile woman embroils him in her sometimes dark world and her refusal to give up on the man with whom she shared so much of her life’s trials frustrates Jace’s attempts to cosset and protect her. Unfortunately, Jace’s family and friends aren’t sure that Bethany is a healthy addition to his life and he may be faced with an impossible decision that threatens his heart and soul.
