Eternal Kiss

Mark of the Vampire, #2

Eternal Kiss by Laura Wright is the next in the Mark of the Vampire series, sequel to Eternal Hunger. Nicholas Roman is blindsided by a vampire named Kate Everborne who presents him with a balas named Ladd that she claims is his offspring. The unfortunate child witnessed his mother being murdered in front of his eyes and Kate, who was also present, undertakes to deliver him safely to his father despite the damage it will do to her parole. The Roman brothers are still hunting Impure Ethan Dare who is trying to rally a revolution and has also targeted the Roman brothers. Alexander Roman's true mate, Sara Donahue, also has her own problems with her brother Gray who refuses to be assimilated into the household. Nicholas and Kate both have horrible events in their respective pasts but this doesn't seem to eliminate the unwilling attraction they are feeling for one another. The Order of Ten also is continuing to manipulate everyone's lives yet it also has its own divisive factions which make it even more difficult to determine who is actually an ally and who is a true enemy.

Another very layered story that has multiple themes which are confusingly intertwined. The ongoing struggles between the Romans and the Order of Ten continue with threats toward the well-being of the various family member. The premise of the series is interesting but perhaps an introductory chapter that gives an overview of preceding events would be of assistance to a reader. There are so many interconnections between the characters and various layers with the permutations of pure and impure status, blood relationships, morpho threats, value of balas, threat of Breeding Males and a bewildering array of implications that it is difficult to determine the significance of many events. Imaginative storyline with good potential with more extensive development.
