This complex paranormal romance series should be read in order because there are quite a few threads that are being woven together as the series continues. I enjoyed the glimpse of characters from previous novels and was pleased that some of the mysteries of the origins of several characters are being revealed. The blossoming of Gray Donohue into his leadership role is a welcome development although I was not terribly enamored of his erratic relationship with the fiery Dillon who has such issues and is struggling with her jaguar form. The oddly symbiotic relationship between the factions who are at such terrible pains to destroy one another continues to threaten the fragile relationships and the lines get more and more blurred with each book in this series. Those who are fond of the complicated and sometimes very tortured characters who populate this world should enjoy getting an additional glimpse into their lives but be forewarned that there is an unexpected development at the end that will make one impatiently await the next book.
“Eternal Beast” by Laura Wright is part of her ‘Mark of the Vampire’ series and centers on Dillon, who has inexplicably become dependent on Gray Donohue to allow her to reclaim her veana (female vampire) state after she is stuck in her jaguar Beast shape. Their complicated love-hate relationship has moved into a new phase but neither is willing to cede control to the other, especially with the complicated struggle that is taking place between the Impures and the Order which seeks to ensure that they don’t breed. Gray is spearheading the Resistance which has estranged him from his sister who has found her mate in Alexander but Dillon has her own family issues. The two of them must learn to fight together rather than against each other and then they must find a way to meld their allies into an effective fighting force.
Ever since his abduction by the Eternal Order of Vampires, Gray Donohue has finally found his true calling: vengeance. He will stop at nothing to bring his fellow Impure vampires the freedom they deserve. Now if he could just release his primal need for the beautiful vampire who saved his life-and rules his thoughts and desires . . .
After nearly killing the senator she was assigned to protect, Dillon is now in mortal danger. The jaguar within her has been unleashed, and she can no longer control it. Sex is the only thing that can tame her shift. And Gray is the only man who can make her surrender to a passion strong enough to overpower her inner beast. But she doesn't want to surrender-she wants her life back. Because she is determined never to belong to anyone, especially not Gray-the man who destiny claims is her mate.
