This suspense story combines an eerie murder mystery with remarkable psychic phenomena and rounds it off with family drama and characters who are dealing with their own sets of past trauma and emotional wounds. Despite the fact that it is part of a series, there is no problem reading this as a stand-alone volume, but I think it would be better if the connections to the other stories were laid out a little better because one gets such a short glimpse of those who were featured in the prior novels. Despite my guess about the villain, there were several unexpected twists and the tension nicely escalates throughout the book and I enjoyed watching the main characters deepen their relationship although I thought the heroine was a little slow to act on the information she had received about her family. This was an entertaining and chilling tale and I think that anyone who likes a good mystery with an intriguing psychic twist will enjoy it!
“Energized” by Mary Behre is part of the ‘Tidewater’ paranormal series that is set in an unusual town in Virginia. The tale centers around Hannah Halloran, a woman who has the unusual talent of metal psychometry, allowing her to relive another’s experiences by touching something metallic that they have held. A searing one-night stand with a mourning Marine has unexpected consequences when she comes into contact with him again in his hometown, but neither expects the ties that come to bind them, with both positive, but also possibly deadly, results.
