Enchanted No More

Enchanted No More by Robin Owens tells the story of Jenni Jindesfarne who is one of the few Mistweavers left. The Lightfolk need her rare power to enter the interdimension and balance the Elements but Jenni wants  nothing to do with the magic and the folk who were involved in the destruction of her family a decade and a half ago. Content to use her talents as a computer game programmer, Jenni does not want to interact with the brother who repudiated her when the rest of the family was killed nor the lover whom she blames for his role in her loss. Promises of status and riches fail to tempt the bereft human-djinn-elf hybrid but she has trouble resisting her handsome and talented ex-lover, Aric, who embraces his mother's Treefolk nature while rejecting the elf who sired him. Jenni's crippled brother has succumbed to the lure of becoming a Lightfolk prince but is endangered while trying to complete the mission and she cannot ignore his plight, despite his antipathy toward her. Jenni becomes enmeshed in yet another major undertaking that will require the cooperation of all of the Lightfolk royalty but she must find a way to survive attacks from the great Dark ones as well as their agents the shadleeches. With even fewer resources than ever before at her command, Jenni must decide if she can allow herself to depend on others again and forgive others as well as herself for past mistakes.

Another nicely intricate tale from Robin Owens that combines fantastical elements with likeable characters and complex relationships that address realistic conflicts. Interesting secondary characters such as the brownies give depth to the story and imaginative concepts like greenspace storage areas and traveling through trees keep the reader intrigued with this version of Earth. An entertaining tale from a versatile author.
